[intro] An SSL Certificate is essential to your EKM online shop so that customers are aware that your EKM online shop is secure. If you’re not sure what this means, read this guide which explains what SSL Certificates are used for in more detail. [/intro]

SSL Certificates are installed automatically

When you have claimed your free domain name from EKM domains or pointed an external domain name at your EKM online shop, you will see that within a few hours, a domain-validated SSL Certificate will automatically be applied to your primary domain.

But what if I have more than one domain on my EKM online shop?

If there’s more than one domain pointed at your EKM online, our system will automatically apply SSL Certificates to these too - you don’t need to do anything more.

How do I renew my SSL Certificate?

The free SSL certificates which are applied to your domains will automatically renew every 60-70 days, so you don’t need to go through any renewal processes - our system will do all of this for you.

[warning] If you use Cloudflare or a similar CDN (Content Delivery Network), you will be unable to receive a free SSL Certificate for your EKM online shop. This is because our SSL Certificates use IP address verification, and a CDN will return a different IP address to that of your shop, preventing the SSL Certificate from being verified. [/warning]

Troubleshooting

Why can I not see my SSL certificate when I am editing my shop?

The SSL Certificates are only visible on the front end of your EKM online shop, not on the back end, where you can edit and manage your content.

Why does it say my SSL Certificate has been applied, but when I check on the front end of my shop, I cannot see it?

The usual cause of this is that there is a link (or possibly more than one) within your content which includes ‘http’, and not ‘https’ which is preventing your EKM online shop from being secure. This could be third-party code - such as a traffic counter or an image for example - and this needs amending to make your SSL Certificate visible.

Have a look at the content on your EKM online shop and if there is any third-party code or images which you have hosted elsewhere (and not within your File Manager) that have been used, ensure that you amend any ‘http’ to ‘https’.

This issue can also occur when hyperlinking images and text to different parts of your EKM online shop and you have included the entire URL, which looks like this:

http://www.evestestshop.com/ekmps/shops/ffcfab/resources/Design/roller-skates-415389-1920.jpg

Remedy this by removing the first part of the link before the /ekmps, like this:

/ekmps/shops/ffcfab/resources/Design/roller-skates-415389-1920.jpg

This link will still work, but as we’ve removed the first part - which includes the ‘http’ - this ensures that the SSL Certificate installed on your EKM online shop displays correctly.
