[intro] When you have completed this Guide, you will know how many and what kind of Webpages you will need to create for your EKM online shop, according to the Products that you sell. [/intro]

On your EKM online shop, Webpages are places for you to add large bodies of text that customers can refer to during their visit. Webpages are used as reference where the information is too large to be added to a Product or Category page, or would require duplication - which is something that search engines frown upon.

Webpages are also incredibly useful for helping customers get to know all about your EKM online shop as you can tell the tale of how the business began as well as providing the customers with useful information such as how to contact you.

Default Webpages

You’ll notice on your own EKM online shop that you have two default Webpages already - Terms and Privacy.

Terms - This Webpage details information for your customers regarding the use of the shop itself, confirming what customer can and can’t do on your EKM online shop.

Privacy - This Webpage details how information customers may give to your EKM online shop is used. This covers both technical aspects - such as cookies - and more common aspects - such as a delivery address - and how this information is processed.

Both of these Webpages can be edited, but cannot be deleted. It is advised that you do not edit the existing default text as it covers all kinds of EKM online shops, regardless of the Products that they sell.

Essential Webpages

These are Webpages which you need to create regardless of what kind of Products or services that you sell on your EKM online shop. They provide vital information for customers and also allow them to get to know more about your brand and ethos.

Contact Us - If you trade online only, a Contact page needs to list all of the ways that customers can contact you, which is essential if you don’t have a physical shop that they can visit. A Contact Form is useful, as is links to the associated social media profiles that you’ve created to promote your EKM online shop. However, if you have actual physical premises, you also need to add in directions for customers to be able to find you and opening hours. It also helps to embed a Google Map as well as publish your physical address to make it even easier for customers to locate you. You can read more about what to add to your Contact Us page here

Delivery - Let your customers know how their orders will arrive with them. Include how the Products will be packaged (if your Products are sent on pallets or in specialist packaging), and how they will be delivered - such as a courier company or Royal Mail. If customers can track their orders, make sure you include a link to the relevant page of your courier’s website for them to check how far their orders is from being delivered.

Returns - If a customer has a problem with their order, what is your Returns Policy? You need to detail whether returns will be accepted if they have been used, or when they need to be returned by in order to be refunded. You also need to detail who will pay the shipping costs for the Products to be returned.

About Us - An About Webpage is recommended as it’s here you can tell the story about your EKM online shop. When were you founded? What made you get into this industry? What is your ethos? Where are your premises? What makes you stand out from others in your industry? You can read more about what to add to your About Us page here

Optional Webpages

These Webpages are created dependent on what kind of Products and services that you sell. Some Products when sold have lots of documentation which refers to them, and Webpages are an ideal place for them to download this.

Size Guides - If your EKM online shop sells clothing, footwear or similar, be sure to write up some size guides to add to your Webpage. Don’t be tempted to publish an image from your supplier’s website of the size guide - take the time to type these up and format them correctly to ensure that they can read clearly on tablets, laptops and mobile devices.

Health & Safety Information - If your Products have safety documentation which relates to them - such as domestic paint which requires documentation detailing content and VOCs, or essential oils which have long lists of contraindications, then a Webpage is an excellent place to details this information and what Products it applies to.

Product Guides - If you sell Products which require an amount of skill and expertise to use, Guides which detail how the Products are used on a Webpage work very well. For example, an EKM online shop selling screen printing equipment would benefit from creating a Webpage which listed useful tips and tricks and embedded ‘how-to’ videos to help their customers learn how to screen print. This would also encourage brand loyalty and repeat visits to their EKM online shop.

Social - If the nature of your EKM online shop is very social media based, it’s beneficial to create a Webpage which details all of the different places that your customers can interact with you online. You can include staff photos and really paint a picture of the kind of content customers will see when they follow your EKM online shop on social media. This Webpage is especially good for increasing your followers on all platforms, especially if you frequently offer discount codes and similar promotions on social media.

Formatting your Webpages

When you have created and added content to your Webpage, you need to ensure that any content you have added fills at least to the fold line. This means that when you view the Webpage on a laptop or desktop, there is enough content to fill the Webpage without any empty ‘negative’ space at the bottom. If there is more content than that, forcing the reader to scroll further down the Webpage, that’s fantastic. You can use horizontal images to add to the content to help you fill the space if need be.
